2020 Volvo XC60 vs 2020 BMW X3

The Volvo XC60 has grown into the best-selling Volvo model in Canada in less than a decade, while at the same time becoming a key model in the compact luxury SUV segment.

The new 2020 Volvo XC60 features the luxury, performance, and capability that buyers want in this segment along with a touch of refinement and incredible comfort. It’s overall balance and ability to tick every box is what makes the new Volvo XC60 so popular and what allows it to stand out in a very competitive segment in Canada. The new Volvo XC60 has all the tools to face some of its toughest competitors, competitors like the new BMW X3.

More Space in the 2020 Volvo XC60

The first area where the new Volvo XC60 really shines is in the versatility department. The new 2020 Volvo XC60 offers up to 1,792 litres in the trunk while the BMW X3 has less than 1,600 litres. Even with all seats in place, the Volvo XC60 has about 200 litres more cargo space than the BMW X3 which means families in need of space will certainly love the XC60.

Under the hood, the base Volvo XC60 has more power than the BMW X3. Its T5 engine delivers 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque which gives the XC60 a slight advantage over the X3 that has 248 horsepower. The next engine in the Volvo XC60 lineup is the T6 that offers 316 horsepower. This is less than the BMW X3 M40i, but the 2020 Volvo XC60 T6 is also a lot more affordable than the X3 M40i.

And then there’s the 2020 Volvo XC60 T8 which features a powerful, 400-horsepower plug-in hybrid engine. This engine features 27 kilometres of all-electric range to go along with an average of just 3.8 litres per 100 kilometres fuel economy. It can also reach 100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds. No such model exists in the BMW X3 range.
