2020 Volvo XC90 vs 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE

The Volvo XC90 is a mid-size luxury crossover that features advanced power and technology that leads to greater efficiency. And of course, a unique Scandinavian style. It features three engine options, including an efficient hybrid. Here, we compare the 2020 XC90 to the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE series.

The XC90 has a better ground clearance, with a height of 229 mm versus up to 203 on the GLE. This means the XC90 will clear more obstructions, especially if you take it off-road. The XC90 is also up to 84 mm wider with a similar length, providing extra stability around tight corners. Because value is important in any segment, the Volvo XC90 has a lower sticker price than the GLE. You can put your hands on a well-equipped XC90 for $61,000. The Mercedes-Benz GLE starts at $64,700.

The 2020 Volvo XC90 reveals a full slate of power and efficiency

Advanced engines power the XC90’s trims, including all-gasoline and hybrid systems. The AWD T5 provides the Momentum trim with 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. It achieves a fuel consumption rating of 11.2/8.3 L/100 km (city/highway), which is the best gasoline-only rating out of all engines offered in the XC90. The AWD turbocharged T6 is available in all trims (except PHEV) and features 316 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.

The XC90’s T8 Twin Engine is found in the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) trim and features the performance combination of a gasoline engine and electric motor that produces the best horsepower of the XC90 family. Both motors generate a net 400 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque, and they also create one of the most efficient SUVs in its class with a fuel consumption rating of 9.1/8.4 L/100 km (city/highway).

The Mercedes-Benz GLE offers two gasoline-only engines. The GLE 350 4MATIC includes a turbocharged four-cylinder with 255 horsepower and a turbocharged six-cylinder that reaches 362 horsepower. But both variants come at a higher price than the XC90’s engines.

The 2020 Volvo XC90 has plenty of space

Interior space is important. And the XC90’s got plenty of it for passengers and cargo. The interior of the XC90 is spacious, with up to 328 of additional and useful cargo volume than the GLE - behind the middle row. The interior offers even more comfort, convenience, technology and more.

The Volvo XC90 is a unique SUV that strays away from conventional and boring German SUVs. You can shop for your car online with us. Our representatives are waiting for your call and can answer all your questions.
