2021 Volvo XC40 vs 2021 Audi Q3: Swedish luxury comes out on top

The 2021 Volvo XC40 arrived just over two years ago and rapidly took its place among entry-level luxury sport utility vehicles with its design, interior luxury, versatility, and impressive performance. Taking on established competitors like the 2021 Audi Q3 involves leaving nothing to chance, and the XC40 delivers from every angle.

For starters, the XC40 delivers livelier performance in its base model as well as with its optional T5 engine. There’s a lot to be impressed about in the 2021 Volvo XC40 starting with the fact that it features more power than the Q3 at every level. The base engine delivers 187 horsepower while the optional 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder delivers 248 horsepower. That’s 20 more than the most powerful engine option in the Audi Q3.

Buyers who want a small luxury SUV tend to get around mostly in the city, and they tend to lead very active lives. They also have a young family or are planning to start a family. Regardless of whether you fit into that description or not, chances are you are buying a small SUV like the Volvo XC40 or Audi Q3 because you want a certain level of versatility without having to compromise agility or driving pleasure.

Both the Volvo XC40 and the Audi Q3 deliver this versatility, but the Volvo is more spacious than the Audi as you can see in the table below.

The Volvo XC40 not only has more cargo capacity, but it also has more rear head room meaning that backseat passengers will be more comfortable. It also has more front head room and more front legroom as well, and it is identical in terms of rear leg room.

The 2021 XC40 is also more comfortable on the road and features a luxurious interior packed with the latest technologies. The Volvo XC40 essentially features the same interior design as the more expensive XC60 and XC90 models while the Q3 has its own interior that reflects its entry-level status in the Audi lineup.
