Three Things to Know: 2020 Volvo XC60

Volvo’s midsize SUV, the XC60 checks all the necessary boxes when it comes to luxury, safety, design and performance. Inside and out, the XC60 is an engineering marvel. From it’s all-new T8 hybrid engine that utilizes three power sources to its comfortable and amenity-laden interior, there’s much to discover about the 2020 Volvo XC60. So, here are the top three things you need to know.

All 2020 Volvo XC60 models use a 2.0L Turbocharged engine

That’s right, no matter which model you choose, be it the T5, T6 or T8 Hybrid, you’ll find a 2.0L turbocharged engine under the beautifully sculpted hood. What changes is the power output, and that’s because Volvo just keeps adding power sources to the turbocharger. With the T5 model, the 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder produces 250 horsepower. Jump to the T6 and you get a supercharger along with the turbocharger, and the horsepower increases to 315 ponies. But it’s the T8 that’s really impressive as it adds a mild hybrid system to the turbocharger and supercharger and increases the horsepower to 400 while also being the most fuel efficient of the bunch.

There’s a Polestar Edition

This is definitely a must-know fact about the 2020 Volvo XC60. Polestar, Volvo’s electric performance division, got its hands on the XC60 and they’ve managed to squeeze even more power out of the hybrid eAWD system. The blue badge on the back means the XC60 T8 eAWD Polestar produces 415 horsepower and 494 lb-ft of torque - while also offering better fuel mileage and the safety of Volvo’s AWD system.

The 2020 Volvo XC60 T8 Hybrid is a PHEV

The real beauty of Volvo’s T8 hybrid system is the fact that it is, in fact, a plug-in hybrid. That means, you can plug your XC60 T8 in to fully charge the battery and have approximately 30km of battery-only range. That’s impressive for a vehicle its size, and means that for short hops around town or your neighbourhood, you can rest assured you’ll not touch a drop of fuel. The Volvo XC60 T8 can be fully charged on a 240-volt charger in 2-3 hours.
