Volvo Cars Integrates Prime Video and Prepares to Launch YouTube in its Vehicles
September 15 2023,
Volvo Cars has announced that it will offer Amazon's Prime Video for download via Google Play in all markets where Google services are accessible. This marks the Swedish automaker as one of the first in the industry to make Prime Video available directly within its vehicles.
Erik Severinson, the global head of new car programs at Volvo, stated that the inclusion of services like Prime Video and the forthcoming YouTube integration aim to enrich the software ecosystem available to Volvo drivers. According to the company, these enhancements contribute to their ongoing commitment of creating vehicles that evolve with the needs and lifestyles of their customers.
YouTube is also set to join the Volvo Cars’ in-car entertainment lineup in the near future. This will be made available through Google’s built-in system.
Starting September 18th, the company will initiate a phased rollout of these services. Prime Video will be downloadable from Google Play, while YouTube is slated to arrive as a pre-installed app via an over-the-air (OTA) update. These updates will be introduced market by market, further expanding Volvo's software suite.
Volvo emphasizes that safety remains their top priority. To align with this core principle, video streaming capabilities will be restricted to times when the vehicle is completely stationary.
The introduction of Prime Video and upcoming YouTube availability stand as significant milestones in Volvo's mission to enhance the driving experience with a growing roster of software and applications.
