Volvo Cars Partners with Tesla to Expand Charging Options for its Electric Vehicles
July 05 2023,
In an innovative stride towards its goal of becoming all-electric by 2030, Volvo Cars has struck a ground-breaking deal with Tesla. This partnership allows Volvo drivers in the United States, Canada, and Mexico access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network, adding a remarkable 12,000 new fast-charging points to their existing charging infrastructure. This significant addition alleviates a major barrier to widespread electric vehicle (EV) adoption by increasing the total charging options available to Volvo owners.
Starting in 2025, forthcoming Volvo models will be equipped with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging port, which is compatible with the Supercharger network. This feature is set to greatly enhance the convenience for Volvo drivers, providing them with easier access to charging facilities.
Additionally, owners of current fully electric Volvo vehicles, including models such as the XC40, C40 Recharge, EX30, and EX90, will be able to access the Supercharger network using an adapter by mid-2024. Volvo will also provide adapters to drivers who wish to use the Combined Charging System (CCS) with their NACS-equipped Volvo vehicles.
To facilitate effortless navigation to charging stations, checking availability status, and processing payments, Volvo's dedicated app will serve as a crucial resource for fully electric Volvo owners in the United States and Canada. CEO Jim Rowan underscores that this collaboration marks a substantial leap towards making electric driving and sustainable transportation more attainable for Volvo owners in North America.
